Pros and Cons of Working With An Online Personal Trainer
Working with an online Personal Trainer? What Are The Pros and Cons?
Along with what at first glance appears to be every other marketable resource on the face of the planet many personal trainers have extended their services out onto the internet, some in conjunction with in-house training sessions and some intended to be done entirely through virtual means.
This is easier for many individuals who want to work with a personal trainer but find it difficult to establish a routine with a physical location (for example, most training locations only offer training sessions throughout the day and early evening, eliminating the possibility of participation by those individuals for whom only the midnight hours afford an opportunity to work out). There are a number of pros and cons to working with a trainer online.
Obviously, it is a definite loss to not have a real, live, flesh and blood trainer there to view your progress and guide you when your training is not achieving the desired effect.
In addition, you lose a great deal of the motivation that a personal trainer is able to provide; when there is no one there to look over your shoulder and urge you to run a little faster, or do that one last push up, it is much harder to convince yourself it is really necessary.
Working with an online trainer also removes a great deal of the accountability from personal training; even though you will check in and report your progress to a personal trainer on a regular basis they will have no way of knowing whether you are lying or not. If you want to sit on your couch and eat bon-bons rather than working out, your personal trainer will never be the wiser (although why you would want to spend the money to hire a personal trainer if you did not intend to follow through is a mystery).
The bottom line is that working with a personal trainer online requires a great deal more self discipline than working with a trainer in-house; if you are seeking a personal trainer because you are not an overly self disciplined individual and you need someone to keep pushing you on, hiring a personal trainer online is not the way to go. If, on the other hand, you are the type of person who possesses enough self discipline to push themselves through their training sessions and who can be completely honest in answering to a trainer you will probably never see there are a number of benefits to personal training online.
As was mentioned before, if your schedule does not permit you to work during the hours set by a personal trainer or if you have the type of job which does not provide you with regular working hours that would lend themselves to the ability to keep to a schedule of training appointments having a personal trainer online can be a tremendous asset.
You can workout at any time that is convenient to you without having to worry about paying missed appointment fees or suffering the wrath of your trainer.
In addition, you will have twenty four hour access to your trainer for any questions you may have. If you choose to work with a personal trainer through a gym or other establishment, the chances of them handing you their e-mail address so that you can contact them anytime, night or day, at work or at home, are pretty slim. You will likely have to keep your questions to yourself until the next training session, something which can be extremely frustrating as well as serve to set you back. In addition, as all of the information about your training program will be accessible through your computer you will be able to access it anytime, anywhere. This is great if you are the type of person whose job or personal life leaves them spending more time getting on and off an airplane than actually doing anything upon your arrival. It can be very comforting to know that you have access to all of your training resources whether you are in California or Madrid.
Finally (and for some people this is the most important part) working with a personal trainer online eliminates both the chance that the two of you will suffer from clashing personalities and the insecurity you may feel performing your workout under such a scrutinizing eye. It is very difficult to become angry with someone who is little more than a name on a computer screen, and since you will not constantly have someone peeping over your shoulder during training it may be easier for you to let go and take the risks you will need to take to achieve your maximum potential.

Good article. Another pro and con, could also be:
1. Another pro, that I find is that online trainers are usually less expensive. They would normally charge an initial fee to create your program and then a smaller monthly fee for ongoing services.
2. Another con, that I find, is the exercises. It's hard to have someone to do a completely new exercise in the right way with proper alignment, without a PT watching. The learning curve is slower for the trainee.
